On 29 March 2025, join us for a 4-hour hands-on workshop covering everything you need to get started with film photography. No matter if you’ve never shot on film, this workshop will cover all the basics so you are all set to discover this medium of photography which has the potential to expand your photography practice and make it fulfilling

* Workshop will be followed by a photo-walk which you are welcome to join and put some of your learnings into practice

  • A bit of history and the evolution of photography
  • Basics of film cameras & film types, including hands-on time with large-format, medium-format, and 35mm film cameras
  • How to load, shoot, and meter accurately for film – Common mistakes when loading film and how to avoid them
  • How to meter using an external light meter and modern metering apps
  • Hands-on shooting experience
  • How to get started with self-developing and scanning your negatives
  • Using film photography as a creative tool to improve your photography practice

Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be hands-on time with film cameras?

We will have large-format, medium format and 35mm cameras which you will have time to explore. As part of the workshop you will have the opportunity to take pictures using your 35mm camera to take still-life/portraits.

I don’t have a film camera. Can I still join?

Yes. You are more than welcome to join. Please reach out to us in advance and we will see if we can loan you a camera for the hands-on exercises.
